Congratulations, Dr. Heejun Lim!

We are delighted to share that Heejun Lim has successfully defended his PhD thesis, titled:

Intersectionality and Physical Activity Among Young People in Canada and South Korea

This milestone marks the culmination of years of dedicated scholarship examining how multiple social identities and positions intersect to shape physical activity participation among young people. Drawing on primary and secondary data from Canada and South Korea, Dr. Lim's research advances our understanding of how gender, socioeconomic status, and other social factors jointly influence opportunities for movement and mental health.

Traditionally, physical activity research has often examined social factors such as gender or socioeconomic status separately. Dr. Lim's work challenges this approach by applying an intersectional lens, recognizing that young people's experiences are shaped by the simultaneous and interacting influences of multiple identities and social positions. His dissertation contributes important evidence on quantitative intersectionality and highlights the need for more nuanced approaches to understanding and addressing disparities in physical activity participation.

Throughout his doctoral journey, Dr. Lim demonstrated exceptional commitment to research excellence, publishing his work in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at national and international conferences, and contributing to several collaborative research initiatives focused on physical activity, health equity, and social determinants of health.

His dissertation represents an important contribution to the growing field of quantitative intersectionality and health research, providing insights that can help inform researchers, future policies, and interventions aimed at promoting equitable opportunities for physical activity among diverse populations.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Heejun Lim on this outstanding achievement. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments and look forward to following the next chapter of his academic and professional career.

Congratulations, Dr. Lim! We are very proud of you!
