Cheonggyecheon Stream, Seoul, South Korea.

Cheonggyecheon Stream is a restored urban waterway that runs approximately 11 kilometres through the heart of Seoul. Once covered by roads and elevated highways, the stream was revitalized as part of a major urban regeneration project completed in 2005. Today, it serves as a vibrant public space that integrates nature, recreation, culture, and sustainable urban design. The corridor provides accessible walking paths, green spaces, public art installations, and opportunities for active transportation, while contributing to improved environmental quality, urban biodiversity, and climate resilience. As one of Seoul’s most iconic examples of nature-based urban renewal, Cheonggyecheon attracts millions of visitors annually and serves as a global model for creating healthier, more livable, and sustainable cities.
